What: Full day chainsaw safety class conducted by Game of Logging instructor Kevin Snyder
When: June 22, 2024 beginning promptly at 8:00AM
Where: Alan Seeger Natural Area, Rothrock State Forest, Huntingdon County, PA at the intersection of Seeger Road and Stone Creek Road (Plus code: M6WR+2R Huntingdon, Pennsylvania)
Why: All passing participants will receive a modified Level 1 certificate to engage in volunteer trail work on DCNR managed forest. Level 1 focuses on introducing the participant to open face felling and the development of techniques to safely use it. Topics covered include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, chainsaw reactive forces, bore cutting, pre-planning the fell, and understanding hinge wood strength.
This approved certificate is a DCNR requirement to operate a chainsaw within state forest while volunteering during trail maintenance.
Rothrock Trail Alliance will provide lunch through an HVAB grant supporting their efforts to improve Rothrock State Forest trails.
Limited spots are available so pre-registration is required. Cost to attend is $25.00.
