PHASE TWO

Picking up where Phase One concludes in Hubler Gap, Phase Two of construction is focused on connecting trail users to the existing facilities of Whipple Dam State Park, one of four state parks in Rothrock State Forest.

The fundamentals of sustainable singletrack trail design will be utilized for a new loop trail encircling Rudy Ridge, the area found between Pine Swamp and Laurel Run Roads. In addition, a connecting trail that parallels Laurel Run Road all the way to the park will provide scenic and safe passage for trail users. In total, Phase Two comprises 11 miles of new trails and when complete it will be possible for rides, runs, and hikes to traverse multiple ridges from Musser Gap to Whipple Dam entirely on singletrack.

RTA is the fortunate recipient of a $500,000 C2P2 grant from DCNR as well as generous donations from local individuals, businesses, Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, and the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County to achieve the required 20% match.

  • Section One of the new trail build picks up on Little Shingletown, where Phase One of the trail development ends, and leads to Pine Swamp Road in Hubler Gap

  • Section Two creates the loop around Rudy Ridge which will include a mild elevation change along the way

  • Section Three is a fairly long and relatively flat trail to parallel Laurel Run Road and lead to Whipple Dam

  • Note that the purple trails (Phase One) are being built in 2025, not 2024 as indicated
