Rothrock Trail Alliance (RTA), in collaboration with Clearwater Conservancy (Clearwater), is pleased to announce that they have awarded the Musser Gap Project contract to the professional trail-building company, DirtSculpt, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, for $275,270.00.
DirtSculpt and the trail-construction contract have been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), so construction on the Musser Gap Project should begin this summer. This multi-use, singletrack, sustainable trail construction in Rothrock State Forest is being funded by grants from DCNR, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, and private and community donations. Trail design was made possible by grant funds received from the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau.
The Musser Gap Project is the initial 8 miles of the 53 miles of new trails planned for Rothrock State Forest. These trails are intended for shared use by recreators, including hikers, bikers, trail runners, equestrian riders, community or school groups, and families, and will fill existing trail gaps and create needed trail connections. DirtSculpt was one of several qualified bidders for the project.
RTA continues to seek support to fund future projects, including matching funds for DCNR Bureau of Recreation and Conservation grants. In addition to financial support, RTA continues to seek volunteers to assist in various ways, including trail finish work, website maintenance, social media, capital campaign support, membership tracking, communications, and more.
The mission of RTA is to engage in and support efforts that advance trail infrastructure and promote positive experiences for all trail users. RTA is a committee under Clearwater and works closely with DCNR. RTA and Clearwater believe that every individual has a right to access and enjoy the natural resources within their community and that these resources need to be nurtured and protected by all of us.
